Ten Hag Learning English To Land Manchester United Job

Manchester United News

Manchester United’s prospective new manager Erik ten Hag has commenced English lessons in a bid to succeed Ralf Rangnick in the Old Trafford managerial position, according to reports.

The Red Devils are unlikely to offer interim boss Rangnick the job on a permanent basis despite the fact that the German has put United in a position to secure 4th position, and a Champions League berth. And, with Rangnick eyeing a consultancy position with the club, a new manager is likely to come down to one of only a handful of candidates.

How Likely Is Ten Hag To Get The Job?

Ajax boss Ten Hag is not a certainty to take over, however he is one of the leading candidates, along with PSG manager Mauricio Pochettinoto take control at United, who have enjoyed little stability since the heights of the Ferguson days.

However, even though Ten Hag and Posh are top of the list, those two are not the only names in the mix to succeed Rangnick. Other names such as Brighton boss Graham Potter and possibly even Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti considered possible alternatives.

Ten Hag has had the chance to coach in the Premier League already with Tottenham, but rejected the approach from Tottenham to stay at Ajax – however, the United job seems to be much more appealing to him.

According to The Daily Mail, the Dutchman is very keen to take over the United reins and has been learning English lessons as he manoeuvres to be in a position to start.

It is true that  Ten Hag can speak English already, however he wants to be fluent by season’s end so he can communicate his plan to United’s board – and eventually the players.

When the 52-year-old coach held brief talks with Spurs last season, the language barriers prevented him from communicating his vision effectively, so this time he is taking no chances.

How Will Ajax Respond To United Advances?

Ajax are aware that Ten Hag intends to leave them following the conclusion of the current campaign, and even if he is not successful in landing the job at Manchester, he intends to to try other options in what is arguably the Premier Football League globally at this time.

But it is United he ‘has his heart set on’ and he has already made provisional plans to bringg Ajax assistant Mitchel van der Gaag if he is successful in landing the job.

United’s decision-makers are not yet firm in their choice of candidate, and will likely not make any firm decision until season’s end. As such, Ten Hag has time to rise above his competitors, and learning the language is the first…and probably one of the more important steps.
