Arsenal 0 - Liverpool 3 | Arsenal Continue Inconsistent Season

Liverpool's season was reignited, as they overcame an inconsistent Arsenal FC in London, to come within a few points of top four, and Champions League Football for next season.

For Liverpool, victory meant that they have now won five out of 6 London matches this season, a healthy return for a team whose terminal demise may have been hastily called. The only match that Liverpool haven't won in London this season was against relegation strugglers Fulham.

Arsenal, who appear to be making progress under Arteta, only to show a very poor side regularly, suffered an early setback when Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka were ruled out, together with the ageing David Luiz, who later underwent knee surgery, and Granit Xhaka, who was unwell.

Liverpool started as they meant to go on by dominating the Gunners from the outset. Jurgen Klopp, a master, experienced tactician, learnt form earlier poor results against Arsenal, by going for their main engine..the midfield.

Despite fielding the impressive Partey, and the loanee Ceballos, in midfield, Liverpool targeted, and overcame Arsenal's midfield. Why was this so important? The midfield, so often a poor area for Arsenal, was vital to field the attacking trio of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe, together with shielding the improved defence of Gabriel, Holding, Cedric, and Chambers. This one tactic was for me, the deciding one that secured victory for the Reds.

Despite the clear advantage, Arsenal somehow went into the break nil all. This was amazing since the Gunners were so clearly out of their depth competing against Liverpool's tactics.

Liverpool managed to show their dominance finally when, after bringing on Portugal hero Jota, England discard Arnold showed his quality by threading a pin point cross for Jota to head home. 

Arsenal's errors at the back continued with an error from Gabriel, so often of the highest quality, which led to Salah doubling the lead, and then Jota rounded off a complete rout of the Gunners by smashing home his second, and Liverpool's third. As Arteta said after the match: 'Liverpool deserved to win by more', so poor was the display from the Gunners, a result which all but threw this season into the dustbin of mediocrity.

What is all the more disappointing is that, after getting rid of deadwood in the last transfer window, and securing a couple of decent signings, Arsenal don't look any better...at all. If Mikel Arteta is the man to take Arsenal forward, he will have to dig deep and get more out of an Arsenal side that looked little more than an average village eleven. If he doesn't show the quality he learnt under the tutelage of Pep soon, then he may soon have to hone his skills with a team that has lower ambitions that Arsenal FC.
